Community: Amarillo City Ordinance 14-6-56/62: Door to Door Peddler Permits
The Amarillo Police Department wants to remind everyone that the City of Amarillo requires people that come to your home making door to door sales register with the police department and carry an issued permit. Those applying must register in person at the Amarillo Police Department. The applicant is checked to make certain that they are qualified to receive a permit. Applicants with convictions for a variety of serious offenses or on parole or obation stemming from those offenses within the last 10 years are disqualified. Registered sex offenders are denied a permit. Those convicted of violating this city ordinance within one year of the date of the application will be denied a permit. Burglary alarm sales require a specific Texas state license. An individual without the necessary state license will be denied a city permit. Those that are granted a permit, which is printed on blue 8 ½ by 11 heavy paper, are required to display both the permit and their government issued identification when asked to by a citizen or police officer. Each sales representative must have a permit issued in his name. They cannot operate with a supervisor or company representative in possession of the permit. Door to door peddlers are not allowed to enter upon your property before 10:00 AM or after 7:00 PM. These and other rules that must be followed are printed on the back of the permit card. There are exceptions to some parts of the law for local youth organizations that are non-profit entities. Please remember that registration does not guarantee the quality of the product or service being offered, and does not mean that the company, product, or service is endorsed by the City of Amarillo or the Amarillo Police Department. We suggest that consumers use resources such as the Better Business Bureau to research a company’s product or service reputation before buying or entering into a contract. Don't be hesitant to protect yourself by asking a door to door peddler for their city permit. If you believe that a door to door salesman is violating the law, call the Amarillo Police Department at 378-3038. Violators can be arrested and fined. Contact Information: Sgt. Feb 21, 2013 Meeting
Thank you to Mr. Burgoon, principal of CV Elementary, for allowing us to meet in the library on Thursday evening!
Thank you to Sgt. Brent Barbee for meeting with the neighbors and answering questions from the neighbors. Approximately 37 people attended the CV neighborhood meeting. Sgt Barbee presented a slideshow about what and what does not work with the various neighborhood watches. He said that just because you have a sign, that does not mean there will be no crime! It is up to every one of us to keep our eyes open and when we see something that looks fishy, we need to report it to the police. So, CALL THE POLICE when you see or have a crime in progress and tell the dispatcher that it is a CRIME IN PROGRESS. Get a description and tag numbers if possible. ***Please---know where your kids are and what they are doing!!! There are several reports of teens/pre-teens bullying several neighbors!! No one should have to deal with this! There is also a report of teens/pre-teens that have been torturing animals! Please keep your animals in your house/yard and keep the gates locked. One lady told me that someone threw poisoned food over her fence to her dog. PLEASE!! Warn your children that this is NOT acceptable and it is a crime! If this happens and you see it happen, call it in to the POLICE!! We have a number of peace officers and security police officers in CV. If you know one, call them! The now-forming CV neighborhood watch will form patrols who try to watch for unwanted vehicles in the area. Check out: City View Neighborhood Watch on Facebook and Our City View on FB for updates and announcements. |

***PLEASE be aware!!!! There have been strange cars roaming the streets and alleys of City View! If you see something suspicious, please call the police! Cars are being broken in to, items are taken, and garage door openers are being taken! They then, have access to your home! If you leave your vehicle outside, PLEASE ALWAYS take in your purse/wallet AND your garage door opener! It only takes a moment for a thief to get inside your vehicle! Watch out for your neighbors! Get their phone # and call them if a package is left outside and you don't think they are at home. Leave them a note and get the package for them! It was just on the news, thieves are following mail, Fed-ex, & UPS trucks to steal deliveries when the resident is not home.
